Grounding DEI Work in Student Voice

One obstacle to educational equity is the belief that it is divisive to discuss racism and other forms of oppression. The session will explore the use of student voice—including written narratives and video recordings from focus groups—as a component of professional learning workshops that increase racial literacy and collective responsibility for addressing inequity. While participating in sample workshops that use student voice as the foundation for discussing topics like color-consciousness, student agency in the curriculum, and microaggressions, we will discuss strategies for implementation and receive practical resources to guide individual efforts.
