Celebrating Culture and Identity: Books as Windows and Mirrors

School libraries are portals to places known and new and information yet to be discovered. Characters lead readers on familiar journeys and walk them through difficult challenges. Resources provide multiple perspectives on global events. Participants in this interactive session will consider equity in their collections, ensuring a wide range of cultures and identities that reflect their student body and their experiences while also serving as portals to new experiences and understandings. Participants should be prepared to share a favorite book that promotes equity and is inclusive of linguistically-/culturally-/identity-diverse students.
